Gillian and Sally Owens are the descendants of a powerful witch who casts a spell on their family: if they fall in love, their people will be sentenced to death. While Sally takes the curse lightly, Gillian curses her boyfriend after her husband has an accident.
A beautiful story of friendship between 2 sisters and Beautiful love story. With all that and its magical side, it's the perfect story to make young girls dream. The magical side is very successful, compared to other films which really don't seem real, this one is well balanced. Except perhaps for the end of the Sharif's confrontation with the soul of the other, Despite all this remains my favorite film and I have listened to it probably a hundred times.
First of all, Practical Magic is a film directed by Griffin Dunne and based on the famous novel by Alice Hoffman.
Two witch sisters united despite their differences
For three centuries, Owens women have been born with magical powers. The pioneer, Maria, ended up exiled, pregnant and abandoned by her lover. Seeing her gift as a poisoned chalice, she cast a spell on herself to never love anyone again. But this fate turned into a curse that affects all her descendants. Centuries later, the two little girls Gillian and Sally Owens move in with their witch aunts after the death of their parents, victims of the curse.
The two young women with very different characters dream of escaping their condition, despite the atypical and magical education of their aunts. As adults, Gillian Owens (Nicole Kidman) runs away and has a series of conquests. For her part, Sally Owens (Sandra Bullock) falls in love with a man from the village, marries him and gives birth to two daughters. But her husband succumbs to the curse and Sally returns to live with her aunts with her daughters. When Gillian Owens returns to the estate, after being hit by Jimmy, her mysterious boyfriend, the lives of the two sisters are turned upside down.

Classic supernatural film. Long before vampires and werewolves were in fashion. Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock are impressive in their respective roles. Perfectly realized story.
Released in October 1998, Practical Magic film was a huge hit over the Halloween season. At the time, Nicole Kidman was just 31-year-old and was still married to Tom Cruise.
Two days aqo, Nicole Kidman has confirmed that she’ll reprise her role as Gillian Owens in a sequel to 1998’s Practical Magic 2, as well as Sandra Bullock
Akiva Goldsman, who penned the original film with Robin Swicord and Adam Brooks, will return to write the screenplay. Bullock and Kidman are expected to produce Practical magic 2. film
